Cultural heritage in the Isarco valley
This region in
South Tyrol is known for its rich and varied cultural heritage as much as for its pristine natural beauty. Early Roman frescoes, stately castles, imposing fortresses, elegant farmers’ mansions – many spectacular sites are awaiting your visit.

The only purely Baroque castle in South Tyrol is today home to the region’s federal museum of hunting and fishing.

This fortress is a scary and seemingly impregnable sight, located in the narrow valley south of the reservoir. The fortress regularly hosts exhibitions which are open to the public upon reservation.

| The century-old history of the Bishopric of Bressanone is reflected in the many frescoes and arcs of this impressive building which was originally constructed in Ottonian style but later remade in Roman style. |
| Augustiner monastery Novacella – Varna |
Tyrol’s biggest monastery complex features the Engelsburg castle, a late-Baroque church, a Gothic cloister, a miracle fountain, an extraordinary collection of handwritten notes, a historical art gallery and many more attractions, making it one of the Isarco valley’s most significant sights.
